JEFFERSON REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER  EMPLOYEE NEWSLETTER:  MAY 20TH, 2011 HAD AN ARTICLE ON OUR EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS ASSISTANCE TO THE HOSPITAL.

HAM Radios Help With Training

Jefferson Regional and the Jefferson County Amateur Radio Club joined forces during an emergency response training session on Wednesday, May 18.

Using HAM radios supplied to Jefferson Regional through a regional grant from St. Louis Area Regional Response System (STARRS) club operators worked with hospital safety staff training, creating procedures and preparing for emergency communications during disasters when other communications are non-existent.

The National Level Exercise included emergency responders from local, county, region and statewide entities.

During a disaster situation normal communication modes such as land-line telephones, cell phones and two-way radios may not work. This alternate communication will be the ideal source to receive and deliver information.

The Jefferson County Amateur Radio Club offers classes for obtaining an amateur radio license. For more information call Jefferson County Amateur Radio Club President Eric Platter at 636-344-0141 or e-mail at ericplatter@gmail.com. The organization’s website is www.jcarcmo.org.
