FIELD DAY 2010 WRITE UP

Field Day 2010

The weather was with us in that we didn’t have any rain or lightening, however it could have been a few degrees cooler. Twenty-two amateurs plus a few non-amateur family members showed up for the JCARC Field Day activities so as a club social event we had a pretty good turn out.

Bill De Coursey, KAØRGI and Donna Roland, KBØRQJ did a great job with the food. There was plenty of coffee and doughnuts for the morning setup along with some cookies that showed up unexpectantly which I think came from Lori Robinson, KBØWWQ. The fried chicken showed up about noon with some tasty three bean salad along with plenty of cold soft drinks and the hot dogs carried us thru the remainder of the day.

Everyone that showed up for the early morning setup participated  with the radio equipment, generator and antenna setup and some of the stations were up and operating in a little over an hour.

“Mike Freight” was a big factor I think. Most of the people present for the full afternoon were Technician Class license holders (10) many with KC and KD call prefixes, which means they are fairly new and this may have been their first exposure to a Field day operation and operating on the HF bands.

Although no one operated the GOTA station except Stuart Bell, N8SUS we did have a few visitors that stayed, watched and asked a few questions: Jane, KCØZFA; John, KDØDFA; Rich, KDØKVU; Eric, KCØYCJ; Ron, KCØWSU; Pete, KØCVN and Lori, KBØWWQ. We did make successful contacts using RTTY, PSK31, SSTV and a few SSB contacts on 10, 15 and 20 meters.
