The weather was wonderful until about 2:00 pm when a fast moving thunderstorm came through, but we covered everything and visited with each other under the Sunridge Park pavilion. Twenty-five amateurs plus twenty guests showed up for the JCARC Field Day activities so as a club social event we had a pretty good turn out. Bill De Coursey, KAØRGI and Donna Roland, KBØRQJ did a great job with the food. There was plenty of coffee for setup which this year began at 11:00 am. A lunch of hotdogs and fried chicken was served at noon for all that were there. There was plenty of cold soft drinks and the hot dogs carried us thru the remainder of the day. Everyone that showed up for the early morning setup participated with the radio equipment, generator and antenna setup and the station was up and operating in a little over an hour. Bruce ran a wonderful "getting to know HF" program in which operators that wanted to get some good experience operating an HF station during a contest were paired up and one person operated the radio while the other logged their contacts and then the individuals switched functions for the next 30 minutes. A lot of people got some real good experience on HF under contest conditions This was a great activity. We made over 60 contacts and 5 or 6 groups of operators participated including a 9 year old general class operator visiting from North Carolina. We had a Welcome/Club information booth set up for most of the day and even a little training as we had an Anderson PowerPole introduction and usage class in the afternoon. PowerPoint presentation and all. We broke up about 7:30 pm after a wonderful mean of Barbequed hamburgers and pulled pork. It really was the best pulled pork I have ever had. The meal was produced by Eric and his Dad brought his BBQ cooker and cooked the BBQ for all of us.
